NICE > KIND

The symbol on the card is a rubber duck. I knew it was intuitively correct, but didn’t quite get it until about a year after I drew it. One day, I was in the shower, staring at a rubber duck. A voice in my head said, “Rubber ducks can float, but only real ducks can fly.”

Yes. That.

Fake niceness lies by omission. It’s not fun to look at, but it’s true. The little white lies add up over time, rot our relationships, and rob us of the richness of our inner life. Fake niceness distracts us from serving our soul’s purpose. When we become aware of what it’s costing us, it doesn’t look so innocent anymore.

People pleasing bows to our fear of upsetting others and arises out of a subconscious fear that we won’t be able to tolerate our own emotions when someone is disappointed with us. When we know our own worth instead of trying to earn it, this illusion unravels.
